I have previously shown photos of my observations of these lime swirls from various parts of Europe.   Please see my other Blog posts on this, starting this is one and working back from there.

They are more correctly called the Ostwald’s-Liesegang space supersaturation-nucleation-depletion cycle.

We don’t really know much about them, only that they seem to occur naturally when using matured lime putty that is probably at least five years old or more.

These images were taken at two properties that I have seen recently.   One is in Ticehurst (East Sussex) and the other is in Eastleigh (Hampshire).   The Ticehurst building dated from the early 1700’s.   The Eastleigh building dated from the last 1600’s.
