This was installed in the house in the late 1800’s and a document has been found (from about 1903) to suggest that it was originally owned by Marie Antoinette. Marie Antoinette was executed in 1793. Some additional research needs to be done to verify the claim, but it is an interesting suggestion. Dendrochronology will date the timber and also reveal whether it is French oak.
