Lecture
Through the Looking Glass: A History of the English Window
Everyone has windows, and yet these most essential and common parts of our lives are not given a second thought and are taken for granted.
This lecture provides a fascinating insight into this component of architecture. It covers the reasons why windows exist, how they are used architecturally as part of the design, the materials they are made from and how the changing understanding of glass manufacture allowed them to evolve from stone and timber mullions, metal frames and leaded lights into sash windows and large plate glass frames.
