About me

I have surveyed thousands of traditional, historic and Listed Buildings of every type and age throughout England and Wales. Alongside my surveying work, I lecture regularly on building surveying, architectural history and building conservation to professional audiences, universities as an External Lecturer, and to the general public through organisations such as U3A and on cruise ships around the world. I have also contributed to television and radio programmes.

For many years I was closely involved in helping to raise professional standards within the building surveying and conservation sector. Between 2017 and 2023 I chaired the RICS Building Conservation Steering Group, working with colleagues across the profession to support good practice in the care and conservation of traditional buildings.

I am fortunate to have combined my profession with a lifelong passion. My fascination with historic buildings has taken me all over the world and continues to inspire a lifetime of learning. Whether I am investigating beetle damage in a medieval timber-framed house or standing beneath the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, there is always something new to discover.

Older buildings all have stories to tell. My job is to help owners understand those stories, recognise the real issues and make informed decisions about the future of their buildings.
