About me

I have surveyed thousands of Listed Buildings of every type and age, throughout England and Wales. I also lecture regularly on building surveying, architectural history and building conservation topics to professional groups, Universities as an External Lecturer and also to the general public on cruise ships and U3A.  I have also done TV and radio work.

I am Chair of the RICS Building Conservation Steering Group and author of the 2nd Edition of the RICS Guidance on ‘Traditional and Historic Building Conservation’.

I am lucky enough to combine my passion with my professional work – my love of historic buildings has taken me all over the world and has driven a lifetime of learning. Whether it’s investigating beetle damage in a historic timber-frame or discovering the secrets of the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, there’s always something new to find.

Why did I establish Listed Building Surveys?

I founded Listed Building Surveys to give potential buyers and current homeowners access to a specialist building surveyor for heritage properties of all types, styles, size and age – from stone castles to thatched cottages – anywhere in England or Wales.

Who do I work for?

I am commissioned by clients who are in the process of buying, or already own a Historic or Listed Building and need specialist advice on the state of the property and whether any repairs, renovations or alterations carried out in the past had Listed Buildings Consent. I produce detailed reports on the condition of the building, with specific defect advice and guidance on the acceptability of proposed alterations.
