These photos show the beetles and the damage they can cause. They like moisture and the larvae can grow deep in the heart wood which makes them very resistant to normal spray treatments. If you have them in your house then it can take years and years to break the lifecycle and very often the damage caused warrants replacement of the timbers. They are known as death watch beetles because of the distinctive sound they make and historically were associated with church roofs.
