In the West of England it is commonly known as cob. In the East of England it is more commonly known as clay-lump. The theory is the same – using compacted clay/chalk with straw cuts. There are many other variations of adobe building elsewhere. It is one of the most basic ways to build a habitable shelter. The following pictures show the clay-lump variety.
