These brick fragments are from a site near Bukhara, Uzbekistan. They are unfired. The originate from about 950, still with the finger marks of the maker. I love the straw marking where they were were laid out to dry in the hot sun. They both have straw marks and some tiny evidence of straw is still in place. Also note the tiny piece of earth mortar still attached with a piece of straw in place. This area has no access to lime for mortars, so the buildings use an earth mortar and an earth plaster/render on the walls.
